Advanced Propagation Planner

The Advanced Propagation Planner is the operational planning tool within the USBOTA Propagation Suite.

Rather than simply displaying current conditions, V3 combines those conditions with your intended operating requirements to produce a practical HF planning assessment.

Select your US region, destination distance, UTC operating time, band, mode, power and antenna, then run an assessment. The planner evaluates the current solar and geomagnetic environment alongside the selected operating parameters.

Also compares the available HF bands and produces a ranked Band Planner, identifying the band currently offering the strongest overall prospects for the selected operating conditions.

What this page provides

  • 📍 US Region and destination
  • 🕐 UTC operating time
  • 📻 Band selection
  • 🎙️ Operating mode
  • ⚡ Transmit power
  • 📡 Antenna type
  • ☀️ Live solar and geomagnetic conditions
  • 📊 Propagation assessment
  • 🏆 Ranked band recommendations
  • 🎯 Best Choice identification
  • 📝 USBOTA Operator Brief
  • 📈 Difficulty and confidence indicators

Designed specifically around the practical question an operator needs to answer before an activation:

“Given where I am, where I want to reach, when I am operating, and the equipment I am using — which band gives me the best chance of success?”

A planning aid, not a prediction

Propagation is constantly changing and no model can guarantee that a particular QSO will be made. this should therefore be used as an operational planning aid, alongside your own experience, current band activity, cluster reports and what you are actually hearing on the bands.
